Hello from your Editors. We are really looking forward to the July Meeting at Natural Bridge Zoo. This time we will be bringing our 4 grand children and hope that you will be able to do the same! I have listed some other things of interest to do in the area so maybe you can make it a summer vacation spot. When I last talked with Karl they had a ground hornbill chick, a cassowary chick, baby tiger cubs and many more babies at the Zoo so there will be new additions to see. Since he and Debbie are not always able to travel to the CVPWS meetings, they always look forward to hosting the July meeting.Remember, you must be a registered CVPWS member to tailgate or enter the Zoo at no charge. Non-members will have to pay to enter the Zoo and tailgate fee or join CVPWS.We will be having a speaker from the VA State Vets office. Hopefully they will be able to shed some light on the regulations for VA AI testing and bringing birds into VA. It is my understanding that the large poultry shows are their main target and they have not been regulating small bird meetings and swaps. However they do sometimes do testing on the spot. Some good guidelines to follow when bringing birds for tailgating to a meeting are:to make sure that they are healthythat they are kept humanely in clean carriersthat they have adequate means for waterand it is always a good measure to bring some type of tarp that you can put on the ground to lay your carriers on.Until next time may you and your family be safe and well.Jan and ET |
